Reaching beyond the traditional medical model of care, CompassionNet focuses on improving services and support for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families. This unique program assists seriously ill children to live as normally as possible, concentrating on alleviating their suffering and keeping them at home during the course of their disease. The Child Life Program at CompassionNet provides services for these children, and their siblings, in their home environment (and on occasion in their school setting). Services include: developmentally appropriate play, diagnostic and medical teaching/play, procedural support for invasive procedures, legacy work at end-of-life and bereavement support.
