The Southwest Area Neighborhood Association (SWAN) provides direct service to the people of the Southwest Region of the City of Rochester through a Food Pantry; the Montgomery Center which offers day programs and events for our senior citizens; The Grow Green Rochester Agriculture Program that helps K-8 youth learn how to grow plants from seed to market at our Greenhouse, and more.

Wish List:

For our Grow Green Rochester Program

  • garden tools, gloves, seeds and soil
  • instructional materials for children on gardening and growing (laminated items appreciated!)
  • wood (2 x 4)
  • flowers for our beautification efforts near the street 
  • fully enclosed shed or materials and assistance in building it 
  • non-perishable food items and toiletries (ongoing need)
  • gift cards (Lowes, Home Depot)

Volunteers Needed:
  • Prepare beds for the growing season – making sure raised beds are stable, adding soil, transplanting plants to beds. Cleaning away debris as needed.

  •  Ongoing assistance with the following: fundraising and grant writing; marketing, PR and media relations; coordinating events (on site and in the community); and with volunteer coordination.
Teen Volunteer Opportunities:
  • all gardening/farming tasks
  • assistance with kids during our after school and summer programs
  • taking in and distribution of non-perishable food items.
  • assisting with identifying and labeling plants, trees, etc. throughout our farm
